History

Personal History Kenzie was born in Boston MA. to Scottish historians working for an archaeology firm based out of the city. As a child she was always very bright. She spoke straight forward, and yet had a heart to listen. Her black and white ways confused her parents when she was young. Quick to judge, and sharp of tongue, and yet slow to speak and full of compassion. Truly she was a confusion to her own self.

Growing up, while her parents looked to the ground, she looked to the sky. She dreamed of the stars, and would sit on the rooftop of their house and pretend she was plucking the orbs of light from the darkened sky.

As a teenager she could never decide what she wanted to do with her life. Determined to help their daughter find vision, they signed her up to take a test that would display natural talents and suggest careers. Physiologist was the number one, for her. Finding that she needed a goal, she agreed to pursue the career. At age 16 she began to take courses at some of the many colleges, planning on selecting one to complete her degree when she was finished with high school. It was at one of these colleges she met a Starfleet recruiter. He showed the group of kids he’d captured the attention, that they had a chance to follow their hearts content with their career, AND see the stars. Kenzie was hooked.

She had a vision, and she attacked it with everything she had. Accepted in to the academy a few months before her 18th birthday she got to work.

Life at the academy was hard. She had to work hard to keep up with the heavy course loads she had given herself, the wild child in her wanted to party, she found it was a weakness. She was known for being at parties, though she tended to stay out of legal trouble. Her grades remained mid-range, not the best she could do, but certainly above a passing average.

When she graduated she was stationed at Starbase 001, much to her disappointment. How could she see the stars if she was stuck on the first starbase? Within 24 hours she had requested a transfer, which would take a long time coming.

While on Starbase 001, she met a much older doctor named Flynn McKauley, he shared the Scottish harritage, and accent she acquired by her raising, despite living in Boston, although she can imitate a Bostonian to a T.

Though she was 22, and he was 35 the two of them felt they had a lot in common, and began to date. He was an uptight, quiet man, who was reserved and intelligent. She a party girl, with oats to sew. Despite the warnings from all their friends, and family, they got married within six months of meeting. The first year was alright, both applied themselves to their jobs, and thought their relationship would grow.

The second year grew turbulent, Flynn drew in to his shell, and Kenzie lashed out, both of them desperate for love. They had been completely wrong for each other, and both felt that nothing they could do would fix it. Kenzie began to drink, and Flynn began to gamble, and dance around the fence of infidelity. The end was soon coming, and in a last ditch effort they took a vacation together down on Earth.

Things seemed to ease for a few months, and then Kenzie realized she’d gotten pregnant. With a turbulent marriage she had been firm on not wanting to bring a child in to the world, but their birth controls had failed. Flynn tried to be supportive during the pregnancy, he wanted a baby, and he seemed to enjoy every moment of it, while Kenzie struggled. For some reason the baby made her violently ill, and very short tempered. Her body was sore, and her mind was frazzled, Flynn received the sharp jabs of her wrath daily.

Despite a turbulent personal life Kenzie earned a promotion to Lt JG, and a step up in the counselors office to Assistant chief counselor. For a station that employed several hundred physiologists that was a big promotion for her. As her career excelled, her personal life broke down more and more.

She resented Flynns lack of communication, and the fact he cared more for the baby than her, Flynn resented her attitude about everything. They were divorced before their son was born. Kenzies heart was broken, but Flynn was unwilling to keep trying, even for their sons sake.

When Macrea was born a connection was formed between the three of them, their son was the most precious thing in the world, and Flynn had wanted nothing more than a boy to call his own. Kenzie moved back in, and tried to play the dutiful wife and mother, but the broken relationship was never mended. Flynn was too closed up, unwilling to try any longer.

When a chance to transfer, with a promotion, and higher passion was offered to Kenzie she knew she had to take it. She was miserable, Flynn was miserable, and happy little Macrea was being affected. She made plans for her and Macrea to transfer, but when Flynn found out he surprised her. He cried. For the first time in nearly five years of knowing him, he showed emotion.

But he didn’t beg her to stay. He begged her to leave Macrea behind.

Broken by the realization that even when he would loose her forever, he was still unwilling to try, that he wanted only their son, and not her, she accepted the transfer. Kenzie was unwilling to fully give up Macrea, they arrange to share him for the time being. He would spend one year with his father, with constant communication with Kenzie, giving her enough time to transfer and settle down before bringing him to her new posting. She had no choice, when she had refused to leave her son behind, Flynn had threatened to expose her drinking problems, and demand full custody. Afraid his tactic would work, and ruin her, she worked with him, and came up with the deal, but the whole ordeal left a sour taste in her mouth. She’d been manipulated, and cast out. She discovered the day she left that Flynn had used his friends to push through the transfer request she had asked for nearly five years ago, she had all but forgotten about it.

With hopes for the future Kenzie took her flight to Deep Space 7 to take the job as Counselor, with a shiny new pip on her collar. She didn’t know what the future held, but she hoped it fared better than her past.
