Personality & Traits

General Overview		Pete is a troubled man, possibly due to the father that he lost during the Dominion War. Pete's dad was also a fighter pilot and Pete was exceptionally close to him. He keeps the internal pain well hidden with a smile on his face constantly and his brash attitude. His best friend his his Tactical officer Nick Bradshaw. The two went through fighter training together and have been paired ever since. Pete's call sign "Maverick" is due to the rather unorthodox maneuvers that he uses when on an operation.

History

Personal History		Pete was born in May of 2366 in Lafayette New Jersey. His father was a pilot in Star Fleet and his mother a farmer. Of course Pete idolized his father, and wanted to follow in his footsteps. However, his mother wanted him to keep his feet on the ground. When Pete was 10 years old he worst thing in his life happened. His father was killed in the line of duty during the Dominion War. Thomas "Duke" Mitchell was blasted out of space by Cardassian forces during the battle of Betazed. Losing his father at such a young age effected Pete in two ways. The first was deep emotional scarring which effects him to this day. The other was to seal his fate in becoming a pilot as well. Pete has never stopped blaming all Cardassians for the loss of his father. The rest of his childhood was what you expect from someone who had trauma. He rebelled hard, and had run ins with the law. But despite that his mother made sure that he did his studies and his grades excelled. His grades were so good that he earned a spot in Starfleet Academy when he was 18 years old in 2382. Upon entrance in the Academy here was no doubt what Pete would study. He declared his major in Aeronautics and began to study everything he could about flying. In his sophomore year he applied and was accepted to the elite Red Squad. His closest friends were from the squad. This was where he would meet the man who would become his best friend and TSO Nick Bradshaw. By his junior year Pete was asked to be the Squad Leader of Red Squad, a position he gladly accepted. In 2386 Pete would graduate the Academy with a degree in Aeronautics. He had his choice of assignments and decided to go to the USS Rhode Island. Ensign Mitchell was assigned as a Flight Control Officer on the Rhode Island. His time on the Nova Class vessel, was a great start but he missed the thrill of fighters. His Dad once told him that there was nothing better than being in the cockpit of a fighter and Pete agreed. So in 2389 he returns to Earth to participate in Top Gun training. Here he meets up with Nick Bradshaw again an the two of them would never be separated again. A year later Pete graduates Top Gun at the very top of his class. He is promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade upon graduation. He gains the title of Top Gun of Starfleet. He is assigned as the Commander of the Air Group of the USS Iwo Jima. In 2393 the Iwo Jima was involved in a major battle with Typhon Pact forces. During this battle Pete and Nick were able to gather three confirmed kills and protect the Iwo Jima from destruction. For all of their efforts Pete was promoted to Lieutenant and Nick to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Pete was also given the position of Flight Leader. Two years late an opportunity that Pete could not refuse became available. He pursued the opportunity and was assigned to the newly formed Kingsguard. As they say in Top Gun school always pursue he next horizon and that is exactly what Pete is doing.
