DTI Herodotus
DTI-30656
The Thucydides Program was started as a way for the Department of Temporal Investigations to monitor and maintain the timeline. It is made up of four ships that were built in secret but with the full blessing of Starfleet and the Federation government. These ships were given to the DTI for their exclusive use however, they did not have the manpower to crew them. So Starfleet personnel were given to crew these vessels. These personnel are listed as on classified assignment. The vessel is capable of normal warp speed, as well as executing temporal incursions. It is equipped with temporal sensors, shielding and temporal drive. Not only is the ship capable of moving through time but it is capable of travelling between universes. The current Captain of the Herodotus is Thorrin and El Aurian.
HerodBridge.jpg
Bridge of the DTI Herodotus
The bridge of this ship is compact and small by comparison to most other starships. This is due to the amount of space the equipment to run the temporal systems takes up. The center chair of the bridge is for the Commanding Officer. Three steps down to the fore of the Commanding Officer are two stations. The one to the COs left is the station for the XO. To the COs right is the CONN. From the CONN if we proceed to the right around the circular bridge we will come to the Temporal Mechanics Station. This station monitors all of the temporal systems aboard the ship. Next is the Operations console, then the MSD followed by the Science Station. Next we come to the Engineering console and finally the Security and Tactical station. The bridge also has access to the turbolift and the Ready Room. There is a viewscreen on the front wall.

Temporal Transporters
One of the most interesting features of this ship is the temporal transporters. This device functions as a normal transporter with the exception being that it can transport people and items through time and across universes.

Main Engineering DTI Herodotus
Main Engineering on a Thucydides Class Starship is unlike any in the fleet. It house the main warp reactor and the temporal drive. As such there are a lot of control consoles and seats. For the first time seen there are officers who work only at consoles in engineering.

DTI Herodotus Specifications
The Thucydides was conceived as the Federation's first timeship in response to the rising number of temporal refugees discovered to be traveling through time by the Department of Temporal Investigations. The vessels were purposed as a compact design, packing a great deal of technology into a very small, maneuverable ship designed to travel to other time periods and recover people and items that could possibly contaminate a timeline. The Thucydides class program was initiated in 2365, not by Starfleet, but by the DTI, which maintains an extremely tight control over their use.. Most crew of the class are Starfleet personnel seconded to the DTI.

Shields
Auto Modulating Shields - An attempt to counter successful attacks through Starfleet shielding by the Borg and other races, auto-modulating shields are designed to immediately adapt to the characteristics of incoming fire. The system relies on advanced computational algorithms spread across the entire shield generator network. Working together, generators can monitor and analyze the smallest of variances across the entire grid and, using this information, hypothesize the correct new frequency modulation to tune the shields to. The process takes approximately 0.3 microseconds.

Metaphasic Shielding - A type of shield developed in the late 2360s, this operates best when maintained as a distinct subset of normal shielding, although standard shielding can be modified to assume some related properties. It can protect vessels in the volatile and incredibly dangerous environment found within the corona of most stars, fending off intense levels of radiation and extremely high temperatures.

Weapon Systems
Type VIII Phaser arrays with omnidirectional firing arch capabilities - The Type VIII is the phaser armament of choice for most of Starfleet’s small-to medium-sized ships. While varying degrees of power and capabilities can be found from class to class – even from ship to ship – the general Type VIII operating principles remain the same and any deviations in any regard are usually negligible. This phaser type provides excellent offensive and defensive capabilities for many ship classes that, due to their size, require significant quantities of internal volume for other operations which would otherwise be consumed by larger phaser weaponry.

Temporal Mechanics
Chronal Travel System - The Chronal Travel System allows for infinite velocity, making it possible to go anywhere in the universe or anywhere in time in the time it takes for the drive to kick in. This drive leaves no distortions in subspace in its wake, no warp trail as is required of timeships by the Temporal Prime Directive in order to mitigate any negative effects of time travel. The chronal travel system creates a forced point singularity and forms a high-intensity static warp bubble about itself, sending the ship backwards or forward in time; effectively sling-shooting around itself.

Chronal Jammer - The chronal jammer is a weapon designed to incapacitate other ships' sensors and prevent anyone from following the ship through time by creating a field of tachyons and chronitons with a 300,000 km radius around the ship. Any ship within that field will find its sensors completely inoperable, particularly any chronometric sensors, which may be completely fused by exposure to the field. Other chronal technologies should suffer similar problems. While the chronal jammer is active, the crew cannot use the ship's other weapons, but can raise shields

Chronometric Sensors - Chronometric Sensors allow a ship to find not only it's place in space and time, but the place of any person or ship. When active it scans the timeline for temporal incursions. Essentially they function as normal sensors except where normal sensors scan space, chronometric sensors scan time.

Chronal Transporters - Function as normal transporters except they allow you to transport a person or object to a specific place and point in time. You must know the exact location and the exact time period that you would like to transport to. If a person is transported too many times in succession they are in danger of suffering a form of temporal psychosis which could result in death. Chronal Transporters can also be used to reunite multiple versions of the same person.

Chronal Recall - The Herodotus is equipped with a failsafe so that the ship does not get stolen in an alternate universe or in another time. If the internal sensors do not detect any lifesigns aboard the ship and the ship is attacked, the Herodotus' artificial intelligence will send the ship back to its home time and home coordinates. This may strand the crew in another time, but that is a risk the DTI is willing to take to prevent the technology from falling into the wrong hands.
