Here's to 2021

Posted on 01/05/2021 @ 7:47am by Captain Cornelius Harrington

Well Happy 2021,

I’ll be the first one to say, thank god 2020 is over and here is hoping that 2021 is a far better year. I know, I won't be holding my breath on that one, either. The last year has seen some big changes to our game. We moved fleets, not once but twice. We have gained some new friends and sadly lost some old ones. But, like always we press on. I have said this a few times now, but you all are truly a good group of writers and a group that I am proud to be a part of.

I want to take a moment to thank each of you, you all make this a great game. This is truly a collaborative effort and things here would not be the same without you the players. So, raise your glass whether it be coffee, tea, beer, or soda. Here is to another great year of storytelling, character development, and most of all fun!

~Jakers

Here’s to a better and brighter 2021, with a lot of fun writing and developing new stories as well as continuing old ones. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with this coming year, and as always I’m happy to help with the development of new stories.

~Seklar

Another year goes by and we all get another year older. Usually I am loath to see a year turn, however, this year I think it is for the better. I hope that the coming year brings you closer to your family and that we all can be together with friends in person enjoying the joys of life. As to the station, I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you better through your characters and through your writing. We are more than storytellers, we are a community and I am glad to call you all friends. Lets get this year started right.

~BlackJack Patton

So now to a few things, plans.. a roadmap if you will for 2021. What follows is merely ideas and things we would like to see. Certainly some things will get accomplished and others will be dropped. It’s the nature of the beast. But always strive to improve.

Changes to missions

When we moved back to a station format, one of my goals was to do more world building, and creating the environment around us. I think we have done a fine job of that, but clearly there is so much more potential for growth. One of the biggest areas to help with this is in the area of missions, and this is my personal goal for 2021. I feel we still run things like a ship, “go here to do” and that is ok. However, with a station, the potential for a storyline development so much more.

In the future, I’d like to see several themes/missions running all at once. We could have a team on the planet investigating some ruins. While the Marines are dealing with a Breen attack in a nearby sector, and the USS Siren is sent out to transport a delegation to a nearby planet. Mind you, these are only suggestions but you see where I am going with this. The main story is just a part of the station, but we have room to do a lot more and I would like to start working that into the storyline. We recently did this with the side plot run by Aer and Patton; and I was very pleased with the outcome. I don’t have it all mapped out in my head, yet, but it will be in time. As always if you have ideas on this or anything shared here please feel free to message me.

Timeline

Of course one of the big changes with us leaving Obsidian Fleet is that we are no longer a part of their timeline. I know some were not pleased with the ideas in the fleet timeline and others thoroughly enjoyed it. I think there is definitely a middle ground that we can develop as a team. I don’t want to do another time jump so the game year is 2396 and it will stay there. However, I do feel it important to have a rough timeline set up so we all have a point of reference for current events within the Federation that would have had an impact on our game and characters.

With that in mind, I will be setting up a timeline gathered from a few various resources and I will compile things into an easy format for everyone. Once it is gathered I will share it with the group and we can tweak it as a team. This isn’t going to be Jakers telling you what is included. I want this group discussion and vote, like we always do. If you are interested in assisting in this, send me a message.

Recruitment

Yes, I will be doing some of this. I say this often I am terrible at recruitment but I would like to bring in some more players. If anyone has any ideas for recruitment I will definitely welcome the help. I hate writing ads!

Activity Policies and Promotions (link: http://poseidon.mietye.net/index.php/wiki/category/33)

Everyone should have seen the announcement a while back in discord about changes to our activity, promotions, and department heads roles. Most of these are fairly standard and not really new, while other parts bring about some very different changes. I think the promotions and points additions bring some of the biggest changes to the game, as it puts the responsibility for promotions into your hands. Gone are the days where Jakers just hands out promotions like candy. This setup allows you to see what is needed and figure out how to get there. Of course, I should say that this is new, so you can expect some changes to fine tune things as we go. So, if you have suggestions, complaints, or ideas to help in this area let me know. (I've said that a lot in this email I know).

Command Team Procedures (link: http://poseidon.mietye.net/index.php/wiki/view/page/85)

Another recent change was to formalize the Command Team and clearly set out our roles within the game. I think these procedures help the Command Team in making decisions and gives everyone an even footing. If you view the document, yes it lists a position of 3rd XO. We don’t have one assigned. This is more an OOC role, someone to help in the background just keep an eye on things, welcome new players, help with postings, monitor discord; just another set of eyes. I am sure we will in time fill this role, but at the moment it’s empty (for now). That means yes, I am looking at people to fill this, in time.

So in closing, here’s to another great year and more storytelling to come. Remember what makes this game so successful is the team spirit and cooperation that I see on a daily basis. If you have ideas, share them. If you have complaints, let us know. If you wanna help, DEFINITELY let us know.

The more involvement we get the greater we will be.

Happy Simming and see you in discord,

Jakers, Talla, and Howie
