Blink Once

1,036 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Mini Mission: Lighting Up Shadows
Location: Intel Suite & Cargo Bay, Deck 175 & Medical Bay
Timeline: After 'Where's Your Honour?'

There was a shrill sound, much like a screech, that filled the intelligence suite. A far off console lit up, a flashing light and message showing who was in danger and where they were.

Stefan jerked upright when he heard the warning screech, something was happening and he quickly went to check on it. Wait this was Aer's emergency signal, what was going on here? He tapped into the map of the station to get the coordinates where it was being pinged, his face went pale. A cargo bay! What was she doing there? He felt a sinking feeling in his stomach and got himself ready just in case he'd be walking into a situation. Following the signal he neared the area what will he find there?

There was a musky smell that came from the cargo bay, it was funny how most seemed to have a funky smell... even when they were empty.

The bay itself still had standard cargo inside so locating Aer would not be as easy as blink and boom. The distress beacon had a little audible noise (think downed firefighter locaters) and it could be heard in a dull echo around the room.

Where Aer had been suspended by the Klingon hand there was a small pool of blood from where she had been stabbed and then a trail from where she was thrown too.

By now she was semi conscious, a hand trying to hold in the blood from the wound. Her head wound had bled down her face, matting her hair. She truly looked a state.

Stefan felt like he had been punched in the gut, when he found Aer. "Aer." kneeling by her side, he noted where the injuries were, his face going pale. He pulled out the medical kit he'd brought with him, and set to working on her wounds after giving her some painkiller. "Aer who did this to you?"

Aer's eyes were bleary, the shape in front of her hard to make out and the words muffled slightly. "Kl..." she tried to say Klingon. "Weap..." she tried to say weapons.

She winced as she tried to move, tried to get to her feet but found them unwilling to move. Unwilling to help her show where the deal took place. The hiss of a hypo could be heard but as the pain dulled only slightly, the internal damage caused by the D'k Tagh.

One of her knives lay on the ground, covered in the blood from the forearm of the Klingon she stabbed. He thought it was to get free, instead she now had his DNA.

"Aer, I've got to get you to medical." then he paused realizing that she was talking about the knife. "Okay I'll bring that as well." he keyed in the call. "Two to beam directly to medical." him holding the knife that had blood upon it. Both of them materialized in Medical where Aer is immediately taken in to surgery.

Stefan also said to medical staff. "Get this analyzed please."

Aer's eyes rolled around her head as the light enveloped her and she was transported to sickbay. They were on the floor and tried to move her onto a bio bed so they could help repair the damage. She fought, forgetting where she was, the delirium of the blood loss causing her confusion. She tried to stand, kicked one of the medical staff and lunged forward at Stefan.

She grabbed his face, blood still fresh on her hands that it transferred to his face. The fear gripped her, the fight to speak. Aer brought them face to face, "KLINGONS!" she finished the word she had tried to say earlier. "TORPEDO DEAL." She continued not making much sense the anyone. "DEAD HUMAN."

For a moment she felt queasy and threw up blood on the floor of the medical bay.

Stefan wasn't quite certain just what to make of what Aer was saying. Giving a bit of a slight huff he contacted Commander Letsul. "Commander would you come to Medical." he looked back over towards Aer, with some concern. "And please make haste."

Cara was surprised when she got the message from Stefan. She left her office and headed right away to medical. What was she going to be seeing and dealing with?

Stefan looked at Aer, "Commander Letsul is on her way, right now I am not understanding what you are trying to tell me."

Aer mumbled something incoherent. She felt like the walls were closing in on her as she was almost unceremoniously thrown on to a bed for he own safety. A bio field engaged to stop her from moving only made her more frustrated.

She had agitated her wound a little more but now she was in the right place to have it seen to, even if she wasn't sure where that was exactly. Aer knew Stefan, felt safer that he had been there but where was he now? She found herself staring a ceiling, unable to move her body.

Stefan touched her hand, and squeezed it gently. "I am here Aer, I am here."

Just then Cara stepped in medical, her eyes scanning around then settled upon where Stefan and Aer was at. She swiftly was at their side.

"Okay what is happening?" she asked, her voice a bit gruff. Seeing Aer in the condition she was in, caused her to pale, and it brought to her mind of another officer that she had saved years ago. She shoved that aside, and focused on Aer. "Tell me what happened."

Stefan looked at her. "I am not certain, hence my asking you to come here."

Cara gave a slight sigh, then nodded. "Obviously you have been doing your homework." she stated to Stefan. "I'll take over from here." then she said to Aer. "Do I have permission to connect with your mind?" she looking into Aer's eyes. "Blink once for yes, twice for no."

Aer's eyes darted to the familiar frame of Commander Letsul. The dark haired woman was a bit of a blur but she felt the small push of another mind, almost asking for permission. There was a question, can I make a connection?

She blinked once.
