Mission: Mission 21: The Trouble with Technology
Location: Outer Ring, Airlock 6
Timeline: MD 6

On:

Already on alert, Seklar was already dispatching orders. "Security to airlock 6!" he called out, "send a marine unit to support security and further evacuation. Medical.." He paused. This situation really needed the CMO, with an explosion this size there was no way the holo-emitters would function to support the EMH. "Doctor T'Eseri, report to Airlock 6 with a medical team."

Jack had been about to set the Kingsmen on yet another holo training mission. This in preparation for a rather large mission coming in from General Sobel. However, the orders from the station's XO combined with the rocking of the station put all of that on hold. He ran from his office as he hit the alert button. "Songbird, Meatball, Sticks, Nightingale, Devil Doc, Sparks, and Spitfire you are with me. Crow, you have command of Operations. The rest of you report to Security and assist as they command. This is not a drill repeat, not a drill the station is under attack". He suited up with his team donning full tactical suit and holstering his phaser. He made his way to the transporter pad and awaited the rest of the team. Jack would skip the turbolifts and have their transporter signal routed through the Gimli and independent computer system.

Anthony had been prepping the systems in Marine Country for the EMP so that when they came back online it would be a stressless process of booting them back up and just moving forward.

The explosion that occurred after that was not taken into account. As Major Patton flew from his office, his orders coming thick and fast, he jumped to his feet and began to get ready.

Liam had heard the explosion and then he started sensing people frightened and concerned. A quick check-in with medical showed the order to get down to the airlock. “Kevin, apologize profusely but cancel my next few appointments and Kara’s. Kara with me. There are probably folks needing calming down and reassuring. Let’s get down there.”

Kara nodded, already picking up on the fact that something was wrong. "Yes, Commander," she replied.

Just as Kaylee had stepped into the inner sanctum of Aer's office, the shaking of the station gave her great pause. "We'll have to take a rain check on that one, we've got trouble. " She said to Aer. And in an instant Kaylee pivoted and was out of the Intelligence Office, also receiving the call for security.

"On my way!" Kaylee replied, her heart beating rapidly, her adrenaline kicking in giving her extra speed. The lifts seemed to be messed over and she moved to the jefferies tubes in order to get where she needed to go, airlock 6.

She arrived on the scene taking a moment to steel her nerves, catching the emotional level of those around her. Looking to see whom she could spot, her stomach churning at the devastation and then looking to see who was around. There, someone was injured and she went to help dig them out of the debris and move them to what was being signified Triage.

Songbird joined Blackjack and the others, "Crud, this isn't good. Let's get this taken care of."

Shioban liked her new nickname, though she knew it would take some getting used to. It was an honour, and she would treat it as such. She had grabbed her medkit, one which always lay within reach just in case, and ran out after the others.

The squad of Marines materialized right in the middle of all the chaos. Jack took the lay of the land and a moment later began to get the team moving. "Songbird take all the Corpsmen and start triaging what we have here. I am sure the medical staff is going to need all the help that they can get. I am going to take Sparks, and Spitfire and see if we can figure out what the hell happened here. Meatball will coordinate the perimeter." He looked at the woman and waited to see her thoughts. This would be the first real test of their command style.

Songbird gave a nod, she wasn't one to argue, as it made perfect sense. the people he mentioned were needed, "Good plan, and I hope you find out where it started. Sticks, Nightingale, Devil Doc, let's get people to safety and treated. And you, "Looking at Blackjack "Be careful, there is a woman who is going to be needing you to stay alive." referring to his fiance'. She motioned to those corpsmen to follow her to where they will dig out and move the injured and take care of their wounds.

Anthony sighed as he stood next to Sparks. "This is not my kind of explosion." He admitted as they were kindred spirits in the sense they liked things that went boom.

As soon as the order came from Jack, Erin's eyes began to dart around the airlock. "I would agree there is definitely something wrong here. If the blast pattern is to be believed it seems that the explosion came from space and blew in. But then there would be no oxygen to ignite the explosive and detonate." She spoke to both Jack and Anthony as she pulled her long hair back into a tight bun. "I am not even sure where to start."

Shioban started to follow the other corpsmen, her mind already turning towards helping as many as possible. This was what she was trained for, she reminded herself. She would leave speculation to those that were trained to do so

"Anywhere at this point would probably not make any difference," Anthony replied to Erin. "The blast pattern does suggest inward explosion rather than outwards." he said, running his hand along a pattern as he spoke. "We need to get these people clear so we have the scene."

"Spitfire... How do you feel about taking a walk? We can suit up in the MARVEL EAS and check the exterior of the airlock. Sure the sensor logs will tell us something but nothing beats boots on the ground. That is with the Major's permission of course." Erin said with a look to Hill that challenged whether or not he was man enough. Only Erin would flirt in a time like this.

"Been a while since I went for a walk along a hull," he said, pinching his chin in fake thought. "Get yourself a deal there Sparks. I'm never one to deny a starlit walk examining holes on a station's hull." he grinned.

Aer watched as Kaylee sped from her office like a woman possessed. Truth be told she was the same but her demeanour was far more subdued. She brought her holo-image of the station and began to spin it to see what was going on.

A large red highlighted area, airlock 6.

She began to dig in for a long day as she brought upside holofiles and began to look for data.

Cara woke up suddenly, feeling the station shake and the explosion, then the chaotic mess of people's emotions running high, grief, terror, sadness, confusion. She slipped her shoes on and was out of the door of her quarters. She had been through this before and knew she could help out. Her skills as a counselor kicking in.

She raced through the crowded corridors, almost running into a tall brunette man, who had the pips of a Lt. Commander and wearing blue. "Sorry, I'm here to help out, I've had training in counseling and emergencies such as this. Need another pair of hands? " the dark-haired woman looking at him, with definite signs of being part betazed.

Liam could sense she was his species. "Of course. The more pairs of hands the better. We should start helping get people to triage, make sure no one's separated from someone. Try to help calm down anyone frightened."

Liam spotted Kaylee and it hit him how relieved he was she was okay. He got the feeling it was going to be a very long afternoon. And he was wondering who would blow up an airlock. Was it an attack or an accident? He was sure his girlfriend and all Jack's platoon were on the case. They just had to be there for the poor folks caught in the crossfire.

"Liam Reynolds," he offered his hand to the older woman quickly. "If you can get on the corridor coming into the left of what's left of the airlock, and we can take the other one. And I'll ferry between once we have got some sort of order back in the chaos."

"Cara Letsul." taking his hand for a moment, a flash of something different emanating from her, almost like two people being there, but in one body. She looked at him for a moment, then moved towards the corridor Liam indicated and began helping those that were injured and moving them to a safer place.

Neil looked at the Officer's gathering then over to Tom, "there is an unused conference room just up the corridor, it's currently being refit and refurbished," he looked at the Commodore, "we can set up a temporary triage there."

Tom was already on top of it, "I've got that covered, you stay here and oversee this," he tapped his comm badge, "Chief Winterbottom, meet me at conference room 13," he continued, "Doctor T'eseri, we've taken over conference room 13 as an acting triage and staging area please have a team ready to treat wounded there."

"Alright folks," Neil spoke up, hell he didn't even know who he was talking to at this point, just whoever was there. "Security and the Marines will be digging through to ensure that the area is secure. For the rest of you, when you find an injured person get them to a medical if possible," he pointed down the hall, "a makeshift sickbay is being set up in conference room 13. If you have a person that can not be moved, call out for a medic and someone will assess the situation."

Neil walked over to Liam and gestured. Once they were away from people who could overhear, "Liam, we already have deceased." He looked over to the left, at a body draped in a blanket, "Lieutenant Commander Styles, third shift Watch Officer. We need to be ready for more casualties and possible families coming down to find their loved ones."

The part betaziod nodded. "I've got Kara and Cara helping. I can pull more of my people to help out and I will get on contacting his next of kin."

Patton turned to his people once Captain Harrington finished speaking. "All Corpsmen you are hereby drafted to service with Dr. T'eseri report in on the double. The rest of us let's start sorting."

"I'll help with triage," Shioban offered without pause.

Kaia looked at her fellow Corpsmen and was already sprinting off to start getting to work when the Major spoke. This wasn't a time to stand around idly standing around. She was used to these types of environments. Access the damage, determine the level of care, and tag them.

Pushing her fingers through her hair, Jen felt the goosebumps rise across her arms as she moved into the line of sight of the chaos. While she hadn't ever expected a welcome party as such; the aftershock that knocked the passengers of her transfer off of their feet had not been the welcome she had expected either.

Having evaluated no one was seriously injured on the shuttle; the woman had moved to where the funnel of main activity seemed to be contained as she grimaced at the scene of chaos of people crying, others with shock and soot maring their faces while many more worked to try and evaluate medical conditions.

"Can I be of any help?" Moved to the first person in red that her eyes could isolate, she moved up to his side as her eyes continued to survey the damage. "It looks like you could do with as many people on the ground as possible."

Neil looked at the Officer, taking note of the teal-colored uniform, he was going to guess Medical and hope that he was correct. "Doctor," he nodded, "thank you. Our Chief Medical Officer is setting up a triage here in conference room 13," he pointed, "just up the hall. Check-in with her and ensure things are up and running. The Marine Corpsmen are starting triage but they will need assistance as well..." he realized he was starting to ramble, "just get with medical see where she needs you."

Jen hesitated slightly but only because the demeanor of the officer concerned her slightly, or the demeanor of the Captain now she'd seen the pips. Any type of explosion would cause concern in the top brass but, she also knew many might take it personally.

"Aye Sir." Jen moved to turn in the indicated direction, only stopping to take a limping man by the arm; instructing him to use her to weight bar as she tried in some small way to help.

Brina, along with another security, helped to dig out another person from beneath the rubble, happily, they were alive but unconscious. They needed someone to take a look at the person.

"Here let me check." said a person near Songbird, running their fingers along the limbs and then taking a scan of the person. "Okay, she can be moved."

Songbird thinking that the person sounded familiar, looked to see who it was and almost froze, and was definitely shocked to see her friend here. "Cara, what are you doing here?"

"Not now, I will talk later. We've got work to do." Cara making a sort of wave-off motion of her hand.

Brina could only shake her head, she and Cara definitely will have to talk about this. However, the injured person needed to get to the triage center, helping the security carry the person to the triage set up.

Fallon had been taking a walk in the corridors, alone to collect her thoughts when the station rocked abruptly. She braced herself against a bulkhead as the magnitude of the quake caused her to stumble on her feet. Her brows furled curiously. "Computer, what is the source of the shockwave?"

"There has been extensive damage to the station at airlock six." the computer responded.

"Were any personnel hurt by the incident?" Fallon asked worriedly.

"Affirmative." the computer replied.

Fallon did not hesitate as she instantly sprinted to the nearest turbolift to her location. As she descended on the lift towards the airlock, her mind did not even consider the ramifications of what she was doing, only that personnel were injured and she was a doctor.

As the doors swished open, she rushed from the lift towards the source. Rounding the corner, she encountered a scene she had only hoped to see in movies or a book. Before her was a corridor filled with fallen debris, twisted metal, and a gaping hole in the vast blackness of space. Numerous officers from various departments bustled along, removing debris and tending to the wounded. As she slowly navigated her way through the carnage, she came across a couple of bodies covered in blue sheets. Her heart instantly sank. Although she likely had not met with the individuals under the blankets, she knew of the pain and sorrow their loved ones would experience in the wake of the tragedy. She placed her hand on her chest, feeling her heart beating intensely.

The moment was short-lived as the cries of the wounded filled her ears. She saw a man leaning against a fallen bulkhead, tears streaming down his face which had been blackened presumably by the by-product of whatever caused the damage. She noted the man was clutching his leg where his uniform was torn. She hurried over to him.

"Sir, it's alright. My name is Doctor Morgenstern and I can help you. Now I know you are in a lot of pain, but I need you to be as calm as you can and slow your breathing ok? Why don't you tell me your name while I examine you? How does that sound?" she said flashing the man a bright smile to hide her true feelings. As a doctor, Fallon knew it was important to remain calm to instill confidence in the patient in your skills and facilitate recovery.

"My name is Anthony." the man groaned, pressing his eyelids together."

Fallon reached up and brushed his hair to the side gently. She then placed her hand on his back. "Alright Anthony, I would like you to lean back for me alright? I apologize that it is not the most comfortable bed, but I will get you to sickbay right away once I have a look at you ok?"

Anthony nodded as he allowed Fallon to bring him back against the bulkhead.

"Alright, careful of your head." Fallon cautioned. "How do you feel, are you comfortable?"

"I've laid on worse things," Anthony replied, chuckling through his groans.

Fallon chuckled as well. "Excellent, then we aren't so bad off now. You could say things are looking up already."

Fallon turned towards the crowd of officers. "Can I please get a medical kit over here? I am a doctor." She turned back to Anthony. "Now let's have a look at you, shall we?"

Kaylee had watched the interaction between the two women who looked like they knew each other, she filed that away in her mind as she helped the tall redheaded Marine. Kaylee helped the Marine Captain take the injured into the triage area, she wondered if the woman recognized her as the one who had appeared during the briefing of the marines, then she caught the Marine Captain looking at her with a slight smile.

"Oh don't worry I know who you are," Brina said quietly. "glad to see you not covered in that awful mess." giving a slight chuckle. "I won't spread it around. And we've got more to get to." swiftly moving out towards the devastation.

Finally arriving, Sara looked around at the scene before her and took a deep breath, “this is going to be a long night”. After a moment, Sara spotted one of the Counsellors and quickly made her way over, “Dr Morgenstern, I’m Dr T’eseri, what can I do to help? What’s happened?”

Fallon was relieved by the presence of the Chief Medical Officer on the scene. The scene was chaotic and required the expertise of a Senior Medical Officer to maintain order and save lives.

She had finished examining Anthony when a corpsman ran over with a medical kit. “Corpsman, do you know how to use an auto suture?” She asked.

“Yes ma’am.” He responded.

Fallon could sense he was nervous and even using a tool routine to Doctors would overwhelm others. “Excellent. This is Anthony, he has a laceration on his left leg, anterior along the femoral shaft, but no damage to the artery. I need you to close his wound, can you do that for me?”

The man nodded to her. “Yes ma’am.” He said confidently.

“Thank you.” Fallon smiled. She looked back at Anthony. “Anthony, the Corpsman here will close your wound. You have no damage to any vital tissue or arteries and you should be able to walk again in about a week. Until then, rest your leg and monitor the healing.”

“Thanks, Doc, now go help the others,” Anthony replied.

Fallon turned to the CMO ushering her away from the injured man. “Thankfully doctor, my professor was obsessed with trauma scenarios. We need to start having the medical officers triage the patients, I recommend a colour system. Green is for patients not requiring an immediate attention, likely anyone with level 2 first aid can tend to them. Red for those with critical injuries. White for those who will likely not survive. Those patients should be moved to a separate area and given palliative care until they pass. We can use counseling staff or anyone for that to conserve resources. Red patients should be transported to sickbay immediately. I think that will give us the best start. Identify the medical officers as you see them and brief them.” Fallon said to the Doctor.

It became a pattern, finding injured, digging out those who were underneath debris, caught in the blast, Kaylee kept on moving, almost on automation. She was sent to take a break for the moment before going back to work.

Sara nodded, “I agree, that sounds like a good idea. I'll hurry around and brief my staff then head to sickbay. Can I get you to begin triaging now while I get my people updated?”

“Of course.” Fallon nodded. She rushed away finding the nearest medical officers. She briefed them on the system and had them disburse to begin labeling patients. As she ventured through the rubble, she came across a woman with a severe abdominal wound. She moved towards her and began to examine the laceration. “Miss, my name is Doctor Morgenstern, please be calm and I will quickly examine you.”

The woman nodded weakly as her eyes were barely open, she was barely conscious and it was a wonder she was still coherent.

Fallon reached into the wound and began assessing the damage. Gastrointestinal perforation throughout the large intestine. Several subcapsular renal hematomas. Damn it the renal artery is dissected. she said to herself. She looked back at the woman. “You’re going to be okay.” She stated as she brushed her hair gently to the side. A corpsman rushed over, handing her three coloured paint markers. Fallon took the white one and marked the woman’s head. “Take her to the conference room and make her comfortable.” She stated.

“I need a doctor!” Someone yelled out. Fallon turned to the source of the voice, rushing over to see a man holding a wad of bandages over a man’s chest. The man was barely conscious. She placed her hand on the man’s shoulder. “I am Doctor Morgenstern, I can help.” She said. “But I am going to need you to let me see what is under those bandages.” She stated.

“Alright.” The man said tearfully. “He’s my husband, please help him.

Fallon knelt down, placing light pressure on the bandages as the man released his hands. The bandages were no longer white, but instead completely saturated in blood. From the amount of blood loss, Fallon knew the injury was serious. As she released the pressure and removed the bandages from the wound, she saw the man had a deep hole in his chest wall. The wound was filled with blood and lacerated tissue. She began carefully reaching in to determine the source of the bleeding. Her fingers navigated his rib cage, left lung, she felt nothing. As she continued to feel around for a source, suddenly her t-shirt was hit with a pressurized stream of blood as it shot from the man’s chest. Fallon quickly plugged the source of the bleeding with her one hand, stopping the stream of blood. She grabbed her comm badge from her pocket and pressed onto it. “Morgenstern to sickbay, emergency transport! Code yellow.” She exclaimed. Seconds later. A beam of blue light surrounded her and the injured man, taking them away to sickbay.

Making her way through the rubble, Sara was looking for the newest addition to her staff. She wanted to check in with them before heading to sickbay to get everything running. After a while, she managed to find them busy treating a patient, “Dr. Richardson? I’m Dr. T’eseri, your new boss. What do you need?” She asked, making sure her newest officer was ok.

Jen had only made it so far with her patient before he'd collapsed from blood loss. With a lack of proper equipment and staff too busy to deflect from what they were doing; the Doctor attempted to use rags from her uniform to stem the bleeding enough until they could transfer him to triage.

Barely glancing up, Jen's hands kept on her current task as she managed the smallest of smiles. "Commander. Can't say that I was hoping for better surroundings to meet you. Right now a medkit would be great, I left all my bags back at the transfer shuttle. This guy here, a shard of metal has impaled itself into the femoral artery just above the knee. I think his attempt to walk caused the metal to move which has contributed to an escalation of blood loss. I'm doing what I can but he needs immediate surgical intervention."

Sara smiled as she removed the shoulder strap from the medkit before handing the kit to Jen, “well I guess we’re diving into the deep end on this one” she said as she wrapped the strap around the patient’s leg just above the wound and pulled it tight to create a temporary tourniquet. “That should help us move him more safely. STRETCHER!!” She called out before looking to Jen, “welcome aboard, we’ll have a party later. I’ll see you in sickbay” she said before tying off the tourniquet to keep it securely in place and heading off to sickbay.

Looking around, Jen realized there was no time to stop. The flow of people being triaged was increasing as they were accessed and sent for treatment. The place was a mess and she knew there'd be time more before they had a proper idea of casualty numbers and worst of all; a body count.

Glancing around once more, seeing the marines and medical personnel had it all in check; the Doctor moved to follow the stretchers to sickbay

Back at airlock 6, and mostly against Security's advice, Neil kept digging through the rubble. He was honestly glad that Juni wasn't here at this point. She would have had no issues with beaming his ass back to Ops with an order to stay clear. She was a stickler for details. Samson on the other hand appeared more laid back and less rigid. Samson hadn't pressed the issue with Neil's assistance and the Commanding Officer didn't plan on bringing it up. Neil looked around seeing both Security and Marine teaming up, analyzing things like blast patterns, and assessing the damage. Hiro and his team of Operations Officers were already on scene taking care of all things Engineering. Meanwhile, Commander Seklar was in Operations ensuring the rest of the station ran smoothly.

For now, there was only one problem. From where he was standing it appeared that Medical was lacking direction. Sure, the Marines had stepped in and were dealing with the triage on the scene and Neil was certain that they were qualified. However, they need to be working under the care of qualified Medical Staff. He looked around but couldn't see anyone from Medical there. He knew the Marines were trained and was grateful, but felt they needed the expertise as well; just in case.

By his count, they were up to almost ten deceased and at least two dozen injured. Neil made his way over to the Major, knowing that Patton was specifically trained for events like this. "Jack," he didn't bother with formalities, "Samson has Security and your Marines, they can continue searching. I need you to take charge down here. Our priority is to get the survivors out, gather any evidence turning it over to Security, and ensure that the station is safe. Right now, I need to get over to medical and find out what is going on." He nodded, placing a hand on the Major's shoulder, "you got this?" He knew better than to ask, but it still slipped out.

Kaylee paused to wipe perspiration from her brow, leaving a streak of dirt. She looked about to check the status of people, noticed that Harrington was talking with the Marine Major, she just nodded to herself. He was safe, as well as the others, so far. She certainly still wanted to find out the details of the explosion too. That will have to wait though.

Jack turned and saw Captain Harrington. "Sir yes sir. I have the command on the ground." Jack came to attention and saluted. Immediately he gathered his people and ordered that the senor logs both interior and exterior be downloaded for the time indexes leading up to the explosion.

Erin 'Sparks' Inferson walked up to Jack and saluted as this was an official report. "Sir! Initial scans reveal no pertinent evidence as to why the explosion occurred. Request clearance to take the MARVEL EAS and go for a walk. A birds-eye view of the explosion site should reveal more. My partner for the walk will be Spitfire."

Jack smiled briefly. "Good thinking, permission granted. Coordinate with Meatball. He will be your eyes inside and get your butts out of the sling if needed." Erin saluted and Jack returned the salute as she left to suit up.

"Not quite the first date I had planned but it'll have to do," Anthony replied with a sparkle in his eye. "But who am I to say no to a woman who knows where I sleep. After you Lieutenant."

Erin smirked. "You should be so lucky. And perhaps another time you will be. For now, we need to get to the Morgue on the double. Keep up if you can." She took off at a jog toward the turbolift.

From OPS, Seklar oversaw all the movement of key personnel and made sure non-essential people were escorted from the site. The last thing they needed were spectators and thrill-seekers. "Seklar to Patton, have your teams secured the perimeter? I need you to widen the zone, there are crowds gathering and we do not want people to trespass and contaminate the blast site."

Right on cue... Patton thought of the hypervigilant Vulcan XO. He tapped his commbadge. "Yes Commander, the scene is secure. No one gets in or out without clearance. Be advised I have two people EVA. They are going to survey the exterior of the blast site. We are attempting to ascertain how this was done."

The Vulcan looked sideways for a moment, knowing that the marines were best suited for this, but he knew security might feel like their toes were stepped on. "Samson, I need your teams on-site to gather evidence. Go through sensor footage and see if we can isolate any suspects."

(Samson)

Meatball had hijacked a storage locker and set it up as a field command station for Marine Ops. He coordinated all the security teams on the perimeter and kept an eye on Sparks and Spitfire from here. Protecting the station from a terrorist act was not something Schiano ever thought he would have to do while serving in the Corps. However, it beat training and it was some excitement. "Hoo Rah!" He said to himself as he activated the comms and asked all checkpoints to check-in.

After helping out with recovery and maintaining the safety zone, Kaylee frowned, she felt she needed to go back and talk with Aer and maybe just maybe some sort of connection can be made and find the perp who did this.
