1,441 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: Mini Mission: When The Cat's Away
Location: The Throneroom
Timeline: MD005 1530

Skol immediately left Cara's office and keyed his comm badge "This is Vek to all Marine Personnel. Meet in the Throneroom in five minutes."

Vek knew it was quite a short notice, but given the gravity of the situation he knew it was needed. He made his way through the halls thinking about the upcoming fight and the best way to proceed. These marines were some of the best he had ever served with and it seemed he had been pulled back to lead a charge.

He entered the Throneroom and caught the aroma of gunpowder. Though they didn't use these weapons some of the marines shot in their free time and Skol knew the smell. It made him smile as he thought back to his days of training. He was snapped back to reality as the first of the group entered the room.

Meatball had been handling some of the paperwork for the unit in BlackJack's absence. When Captain Vek entered at a quick pace Schiano knew something was up. He snapped to attention "Officer on deck!" At the sound of the First Sergeant's voice everyone who was there came to attention and Schiano saluted.

Vek saluted back as Master Sergeant Schiano acknowledged him "Punctual as always Sergeant."

"Sir a Marine is always first in and last out sir. If I may sir what is the rush?" Robert had been privy to a lot since jack went on mission with most of the Kingsmen. However, he had not heard anything so this came as a surprise. Add to that Vek was sent on that mission and now sent back to the station.

Vek nodded "This is true, but some Marines aren't quite as punctual as others. I have seen some interesting ones in my time. As to the rush I will explain it as soon as everyone arrives, though suffice it to say we have a fight coming."

Robert nodded by way of acknowledgment of what Vek had just said. He made his way to the replicator and procured a large tray with coffee and all the trimmings as well as a small tray of donuts and danish. "Well then The Kingsmen do not go into a fight on an empty stomach."

He chuckled at the remark, but it rang all so true especially for this group. Not a moment later and the next to arrive was Lieutenant Baaru. As customary he gave a salute back and motioned for them to have a seat. "Lieutenant, you look like your ready for a fight. Though I think that's normal for us all."

After giving her salute, Ixalia gave Robert a grin, "I'm always ready"

As the others trickled in Vek gave them the same greeting and smile. He had seemed to win some of them over even with his past of being a CID officer. He was just like all of them just had a dirty job that no one else wanted.

Brian "Sticks" Cancielleri jogged into the Throneroom and was bemused to see that he was one of the last to arrive. Once he reported in he took his customary seat at the roundtable. The Corpsman certainly did not expect a mission while most were away. And yet the Corps very often had other plans for them.

Kaia was certain she would be arriving last, like always she was neck-deep in a project when the call came in. Grabbing a towel, she wiped the sweat from her brow as she made her way into the throneroom. Providing the required salute, the Sergeant kept to the back of the room. She was a Kingsmen, but these people were tight, they'd been through a lot together. She found it hard to fit in, best to sit back and see what happens.

Vek stood up "Thank you all for coming on such short notice we have an impending threat that is coming. The Breen are headed this way and we need an away team to infiltrate the ship. He looked at Baaru "This task falls to you as there are only four of you. You have the choice of three marines to take with you while the remaining Marines will stay on the station and provide support."

Subconsciously Brian reached for the small holster like bag that strapped to his thigh. This pouch contained his needles and IV sets, it was as if he wanted to make sure that they were there and ready. Cancielleri full expected to have to go in the field on this mission. Although, he would rather not.

Truthfully, Kaia would have preferred to stay here at the station. Yes, she was a marine and she would go wherever ordered. However, if the Breen were coming here, then her skills as a medic were going to be needed. There were so many civilians and people not trained for combat.

"Nothing like an old switch mission. But da question is how are we going to gain access to da ship. I mean wit da shields up it is going to be almost impossible." Schiano wondered if there was a plan in place already or would he have to create one.

Vek smiled “That will be up to your mission leader. This isn’t a traditional fight and so we have to think untraditional in how we approach this. The Breen are not like most enemies and we have to make sure we keep them guessing. Well as best we can!”

Schiano turned to face Baaru. He had not had too much time to get to know the Bajoran, and she had not been officially made a Kingsmen. However, with Jack in the Mirror Universe these were indeed strange times. "Well First Lieutenant. Whaddya say??? Got any ideas?"

Thinking over the situation, Ixalia paused for a moment before a grin came to her face, “two words. Space walk”

Schiano held the groan and looked perplexed. As much as he did not want to space walk he was willing to hear her out.

“It’s like you said, their shields are up so transporting is an issue and we can’t use a shuttle. But, if we use an airlock to jump out in spacesuits, we can use the suits thrusters to get as close as possible, then use micro-transporters attached to arm bands to beam aboard. We’ll need to get pretty close though. Like almost touching their shields close”

"Ummmm that sounds a little too dangerous. I mean if we miss the window and hit the shields we are dead. I would prefer something with a little larger margin for error." Cancielleri spoke up with a fair amount of worry in his voice. This plan was not without its problems.

Kaia looked at the crowd, "so we actually going to do something here, or do you all plan on siting here debating ideas?" She leaned back against the wall, "I mean if you all wanna talk about your feelings; you have the wrong Li twin."

She looked to the nearest door, "I can call my sister if you need to talk." She picked up her gear and smiled, "or we can just do what we do best and get going?"

“It’s the only plan I’ve got until we can take down their shields. We don’t have the ordinance to focus enough energy to make a whole for a pinpoint strike and we can’t beam over” Ixalia replied, secretly hoping someone else might have a plan.

Schiano didn't like it as much as Sticks didn't like it. But, he knew that Kaia had the right of it so he First Sergeant picked up his gear solemnly. "If it is the only plan that we have I will see it done. But Li is right we are wasting daylight so best be going."

Cancielleri sighed heavily and checked the drop holster on his hip. He figured that he would have to use the syringes that were there more than he had ever wanted. Without a word he fell in step with Schiano.

"Don't worry, it'll work. And just to make sure it does, I'll be leading the team." Ixalia said as she followed the others out. To be fair she had done something like this before, in training.
