Patton is an enjoyable writer and an in-depth mission organizer. He has been a deep part of the game for a while and is great at driving the story. He had been central in developing an exciting arch of the game, which had played a pivotal role in drawing in new players, and getting the whole crew excited to log in every day. ~Adira

Howie is himself an inspiration to others, not only to myself. What he brings to the game cannot be measured in words but in his contribution to the overall community, he is a part of. I have known him for years and he welcomed me back into writing and I haven't looked back since. His imagination and enthusiasm are infectious and his knowledge of Star Trek itself is almost on a par with his Scottish accent, almost. He is a superb man, someone I consider a good friend as he encourages all those around him to keep the world we write in alive with ideas, little nudges if need be, and his personality that makes me know I can go to him with anything. He is warm, caring and his love for a kilt knows no bounds. His contribution, time, and effort make him indispensable, and I consider myself quite lucky to be able to write with him on many projects. ~Aer

Howie, what can I say. He is a very creative individual and I've enjoyed working with him. He enticed me into bringing in Brina as his Marine XO. It felt good to bring her into play and was great fun. Now I get to be on the command team with him and I am even more amazed than before. He is someone which ideas can be bounced off of. He has a great love for writing and it shows. He is definitely a dynamic individual and approachable. I can even call him a friend. He works well with Jaker's and I like it. ~Cara

It's hard to imagine this game without the dedication and energy that Howie brings to the game. He is a passionate force and one of the most creative individuals I have met within the RPG world. When I joined I had severe reservations about Marines, in fact, I hated Star Trek Marines. However, Howie in his day-to-day playing of Lt Col Patton has slowly changed my mind on marines in Star Trek. As a member of the command staff, Howie has grown into someone that I consider a friend. I trust his opinion and have learned to listen to him (sometimes). Thanks for all you do my friend, keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see what 2022 brings ~Harrington

From the moment I stepped onto the Station, Patton was an inviting aura as soon as I joined the Marines and he was helpful in the creation of my character and as soon as I started writing I could tell the pride he puts in playing in Marine CO. He is a great writer for the Marines and his character has an outstanding bio to show the professional background of a true Marine.

The romance between Patton and Aer has been subtle but it has been there. Patton had survived an explosion during his bachelor party, recovered and there was a tearful reunion. Afterwards in several posts there has been the mentioning of them missing each other due to seperation. This is due to an away mission. Even though for one it will have only been a scant few days, for another it has been months. I am looking forward to seeing these two reunite and finally having their long awaited wedding. It will be lovely having a happy moment after so much chaos that has ensued. - Cara

I wanted to give a shout out to Patton. In an award in the past you had stated some very lovely things about me, however I don't know if you, Howie realize that you had that creative chemistry that drew me in and I wanted to partake in it and see what would happen. There was just something about you that called to me, just to explore the characters that you write. I consider you a friend and am glad to have wandered into the realms of Poseidon Station. Many thanks for being a part of this community, for being so welcoming for sparking even more ideas and creativity in me. And also thank you for your dedication to the sim and the community. -Cara Letsul

I will be the first one to tell anyone that I don't accept Marines, it's been my rule for a long time. I don't understand them and I don't know (truly) how to use them in a mission. So when Howie applied I made it clear the Marines were his baby. Looking back it was the best decision I ever made. Not only has he played his Marines well, but he's branched out to do so much more.

Howie has been an amazing member of the Command Staff. I've come to trust his judgment, even when we disagree and I have learned that he's occasionally right (but don't tell him I said that). I've enjoyed our growing friendship and appreciate all you bring to Poseidon. Thanks, my friend.

"Holistic," an adjective, is defined by a characterized belief that the parts of something are interconnected and can be explained only by reference to the whole. When discussing Poseidon Station, what makes us special is the fact that we prioritize community over being just a Star Trek game. We take the time to know our players and aim to be a part of their lives. We laugh with them, cry with them, and offer support. The recipient of this year's Gold Star Commendation demonstrates all this and more—a fact I had to relearn over the last few months.

Howie is an ever-present member of the community—active, social, and an all-around terrific guy. More than that, he genuinely cares for the game and its players. Howie brings to life the essence of community, and as the first-ever winner of the Gold Star Commendation, he embodies the spirit of the award.

Thank you for all you do, both in-game and out-of-game. ~Jason

Howie, you are a powerhouse in this community and someone I value as a friend and not just a friend but as a part of a family. This award embodies the huge amount of work you put in both in game and out of game. You continually amaze me when we talk and work out ideas. You are a valued person, and wanted you to know this.

You are a huge part of this community and there is the genuine affection that you have for all of us. You gave the group kudos for helping you through tough times; Howie you have been there for us as well. WE are a unit we are a team, and you are there, working in the trenches with the rest of us. Hats off to you, to someone who is rich in creativity, colorful, and endearing I hugely support this award being given to you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. -Cynthia
