Timeline: One hour after Wedding Bells Part I

The time had finally come, and Jack took his position with Neil right beside him. The rest of the Kingsmen lined the aisle with Brina at their head with the command of the detail. It all amounted to this, the love, the arguments, the worry and the sharing of the life. He glanced over at the first row and saw his parents smiling back at him. They were worried about his choice to marry someone who had such a long life. However, they came to terms with it in due time. He leaned over and whispered to Harrington. "Is it worth it? marriage I mean."

Neil came to a halt, his thoughts briefly revisiting the various challenges he had encountered lately. If Jack had posed that question a couple of months back, Neil was confident his response would have varied. Nevertheless, a swift look at Adira, accompanied by a fleeting smile gracing her lips, provided the only answer he required. "Indeed, it is," Neil responded.

As the ceremony commenced, Tom leaned in toward the two conversing men with a genial smile. "Gentlemen, let's remember we're celebrating a union here, not gearing up for a marriage debate show," Tom quipped, his words laced with light-hearted humor. "Besides, it might be a touch late to be asking that question, wouldn't you say, Colonel?" His playful comment melded amusement with a gentle nudge, encapsulating the essence of the momentous occasion.

Jack was someone who never doubted anything and yet for every thought that was certain about this there was at least as many that was not certain. This must be what cold feet feels like he thought. He smiled at the remark that Neil made and almost laughed out loud at the Admiral. Rather than laugh he simply smiled and replied. "I would indeed sir."

"Kinda too late now, doncha think?" Audie whispered with a grin. She did understand how nerve-wracking this must be, but all of them knew through experience, you had to set that aside, and once you came out the other side, things were better than you could have anticipated!

Jack smiled at Audie. "Indeed it is but one always has doubts on the eve of a great day and I guess this is no different. Now Sergeant what do you say we go out there and get me hitched?"

"It's your funeral, sir!" Grinning, Audie gave him a playful nudge, then fell into formation, having no doubts that Jack was making the best decision of his life!

Aer's butterflies were back. Odd Human phrase she'd always thought as how would they know what butterflies would feel like, and why would they have eaten them? She began to shuffle forward, her beautiful white gown practically shimmering in the light and even more so in the holographic sunlight.

In front Tiana led the charge, followed by Cara and then Aer at the rear. She had a little train of her dress behind her, not enough to warrant anyone helping her. In her hair she had several small flowers attached to a hairband but not veil.

Cara had been given the El Aurian custom made bracelets that she would exchange with Jack as she knew she would also receive a wedding ring from him for her left hand and she looked as her hands shook a little. The bracelets were almost a white gold like mineral refined into a leaf-like weave meeting in the middle to form a joining of the two house crests to form a new one. Their family crest.

She looked at Cara as Cara seemingly must have felt the urge to look back and check on her. Aer smiled nervously.

It was quite the sight Brina at the head of the aisle facing the bride and her attendants. Almost like she was the last hurdle. All of Jacks original Kingsmen as well as a few selected members who have been with the unit for a while lined the aisle sabers at their side as they awaited the order. When the doors opened Jack saw his future sister in law followed by Cara and then Aer. She was literally the most beautiful thing Jack had ever laid eyes on. He knew in that moment exactly what he needed to fight for and that he would pledge everything to her. The smile that he had simply got wider.

Aer got a bit flushed in the cheeks as all eyes seemed to suddenly be on her. She'd never been one for much attention, she liked being slightly anonymous and it was one of the reasons she'd chosen intel as a department to work in. That, and she was good at it, and enjoyed the collecting of information to put people down or leverage her, or Starfleets, interests.

She looked up at Jack, that big goofy grin on his face as she approached him. She couldn't help it but smile back at him. He was her world, more than he knew, and she would fight for him even when he didn't know it.

Tiana and Cara moved up to the side as Aer walked up towards and stood in front of him. The trail of her dress flicked around her backside and there she stood. Right in front of the man she'd spent the next part of her life with. "You look very handsome." she whispered before everything began formally and reached out to take his hand, giving it a small squeeze of nerves as she did so.

"You are the most beautiful creature in the universe." Jack whispered back as he squeezed her hand back. In the moment he could not wait to kiss her. But he knew that moment would come soon.

Tom took his place as he stood up a bit taller, with a smile he started, "Dear friends, family, and honored guests, we gather here today in the vast expanse of space to celebrate the union of two remarkable individuals. Lieutenant Colonel Jack Patton and Commander Aer have embarked on a journey together, one that will take them to the far reaches of the galaxy and beyond. Their love, forged in the fires of battle and tempered by the challenges of life in an ever changing universe, has brought them to this moment, where they pledge to share their lives with each other, to support and cherish one another, and to boldly explore the universe as one. As we witness the joining of these two exceptional officers, let us honor their commitment to each other and celebrate the love that has brought them here today. May their love continue to flourish, and may your journey be filled with joy, love, and adventure.."

Aer smiled as she caught Jack looking at her. His gaze almost unwavering and their connection unbreakable. Admiral Rice's words were lovely so far and it was all feeling like it was going so fast as the suns above them shone down and glistened the small sparkles on Aer's dress.

Jack had always wanted his unit and the missions laid out for him. Now he knew he would hang it all up for this woman. The Admiral's words could not have been better if Jack had wrote them. As Jack took a moment to look around he saw the smiles of his friends from the aisle in all their finery. The guests seemed to be enamored and enjoyed themselves. Even the stoic Romulan Ambassador had a smile on his face. Finally his eyes fell on his father who sat in the front row with a smile that beamed. It had been some time since Jack saw his father smile like that, and it was the second best sight of the day.

Brina had gotten the marines all lined up as to the aisle that Aer had walked up to where she'd been married, her own sword at her side awaiting the commencement of the wedding.

As the beautiful ceremony went on, Brek, feeling too nervous to keep quiet, was whispering various titbits of information to Kreca, whose hand he was still holding. In certain marital rites, he was telling her, his voice a mere whisper, the bride likes to be superstitious and will insist upon having no less than four good luck items with her. “You can bet, those will be expensive.”

“Everything can be expensive, when you are not the one to pay for it,” Kreca whispered back.

Brek gave her an odd look, hoping to see a sign that she was teasing him. He saw none, and so he went on. “And what about this tradition: when the knot has been tied. That is to say when the couple is chained together for good, the guests are encouraged to throw food at the newlyweds. Usually they use rice, which is seen as a symbol of fertility and prosperity.”

“Looks to me like fate’s already graced them with those gifts,” Envoy Vlum, mumbled.

“Are we going to bombard them with rice?” Razir, his cultural attaché, wondered.

“We shall do no such thing. We are only here to observe.”

“There is not much to see, though,” Razir added. “I was expecting more, in the form of less clothing.”

“And I was expecting more, in the form of less chattering from you, Razir. Only I, being wise, am entitled to make comments. You, on your side, ought to keep your stupidity to yourself. This is your last warning.”

“Fine.”

And so, for a little while, the Ferengi delegation was quiet.

A good distance away from the Ferengis, Mrs Moreau and Cmdr. Jezka had moved to their designated seats, where they were observing the ceremony. It was in Emma’s nature to find fault in everything, (call it a hobby if you will). However, here, everything was, indeed, perfect. The attention to details, the blushing bride, the handsome Marine... The only thing she might grumble about was that her own life was light-years away from the magnificence in front of them.

“This is the first time I see such a grand ceremony,” Emma whispered to Jezka. “Back in ‘90, a friend of mine travelled all the way from Starbase 520 to the Bahamas, on Earth, for her wedding. The vista was splendid. Unfortunately, it rained the whole weekend, ruining the whole ceremony. Here I feel sure that even if someone programmed a sudden downpour in this holodeck, it wouldn’t affect the couple. With so much happiness, nothing can touch them... What would you say was your happiest moment, Cmdr?”

Joah, who still felt out of place, was watching the people who were present at this wedding. The Ferengi seemed to be babbling with each other about something, but they were too far away so he couldn't hear what that was. It would be rude to eavesdrop, but at this moment he wouldn't mind that much since it would proviode some distraction from this whole social event. He was pulled back into the here and now when he heard Emma's question. "Happiest moment?" He thought for a moment. "I, eh, I don't know. Maybe graduation day at the Academy."

"It is indeed an important day," Emma agreed. "One where you must have been surrounded by people who mean a lot to you. Do you still keep in touch with them?"

"I celebrated graduation with my class mates and a few friends." Few being quite literally a few. The only friend who Joah considered a true friend and who he trusted was Hiro. "Keeping in touch with them... That proved to be some of a challenge. My duties have kept me quite busy."

“I feel the same. It’s as if friends from the past belong to a different time-line. One that cannot be reached. It’s probably why I'm not too keen on the past. Ah, it looks like the ceremony is about to continue..."

After the mandatory meet and greet, Frank collected Tempest and they found their own seats. He surveyed the room for a moment, nodding to various passers. Once she'd settled he took his own chair.

Tempest looked at him and said, "Too much partying getting to you Francis?"

Grunting, Frank gave her a level look and said, "Between Trembles balls and this marriage, I'm having a hard time not laughing when people use it for small talk. I'm about done with the political side of things."

"Now Francis," Tempest chided him. "It's part of things. And you're spreading good will."

"Is that what they call it," Frank grumped. "My grandfather would have used it on his roses."

Tempest patted his leg and changed the subject. "I was curious about the Major's gift," she told him. "I know you weren't exactly over enthused about being the oldest marine at the ball. But what's a swagger stick really? I did some quick referencing but all that came back was some reference to an old earth song and a singer named Jager."

Frank gave her a blank look and said, "Neil carved it. It's an old badge of authority from Earth's antiquity. Some were riding crops others walking out canes. Neil thinks he's funny."

"Funny," Tempest asked, wrapping her arm into his and leaning against him as she looked around the venue, watching the people.

"Yes," Frank said, a smile pulling at his face. "He alluded to the fact that the bulk of Poseidon's people won't know who I am, but if I'm carrying a stick I must be important."

Tempest snickered at then then pointed out some passing dignitaries and their conversation switched again.

Loval stood with the other ambassadors and delegates. His hands were within the sleeves of his robe. Like any Romulan in this situation he watched the crowd and for the most part found no surprises. In fact he only found two surprises. The first was a Romulan female who stood with Captain Thorrin. Loval recognized her, and he knew that her presence on the station would not bode well for his plans. This was something that he would have to keep an eye on. The second surprise was more of a thought than anything. The unification of Jack Patton and Aer Feshau meant that more eyes would be everywhere, for this couple was nothing if not vigilant. A smirk came across his lips as he realized his gift to the couple would go a long way to secure his desires.

K'doc and Khylara continued their rounds and mingled with the guest briefly, at certain intervals he would check in with his teams via the combadge. There was security inside and out of the event. There were more security at access points inside the jeffries tubes that came near the event, and even shielding set up so no unauthorized persons could beam into the area. Satisfied that everything was going smoothly for now he took Khylara onto the dance floor for a dance or two , but still kept his eye out for any signs of trouble.

Khylara danced for a moment or two then pulled K'doc to one side so that they could watch the ceremony performed.

As Tom stood at the altar, he couldn't help but feel a sense of awe wash over him. The venue provided the perfect backdrop for this momentous occasion, and the marine-themed decorations only added to the enchantment of the day. Tom couldn't help but feel a mixture of nerves and excitement; he'd never been asked to perform a wedding before. Tom cleared his throat, taking a deep breath. "Marriage," he began, his voice steady and filled with sincerity, "is a journey. It's a promise to stand by each other's side, to weather life's storms together, and to celebrate its joys as one. It's a partnership forged in love, trust, and mutual respect."

He turned to Jack and Aer, a soft smile on his face. "Now, may we hear your vows," he smiled, "Colonel?"

There was a moment of silence as Jack debated if he wanted to read what he wrote or just speak from the heart. He decided to go with the latter. "It has been said that a Marine is married to the Corps first and the rest of their lives last. This was something I believed until that fateful day I met you, and like your name implies you brought fresh air into my dusty existence. I promise to love you for who you are, and for who you are yet to become. I promise to be patient and to remember that all things between us are rooted in love. I promise to nurture your dreams and help you reach them. I promise to share my whole heart with you and to remember to show you how deeply I care for you, no matter the challenges that may come our way. I promise to love you loyally and fiercely—as long as I shall live. In short I will love you the only way a Marine knows how, with everything they have. My last promise to you is to make sure that I will be by your side for the rest of your life..." Jack paused and smiled a tad mischievously. "...Yes I know you are supposed to out live me by a few millennia. However, I am too damn proud to let you die alone. So, like a true Marine I will man my post to the bitter end." Jack gave Aer a wink as the crowd chuckled and Meatball let out an "Ohh Rah!" from the crowd.

When the laughter died down Jack's face took a solemn turn. He knew that it was time to make Aer fully part of everything he was. "My love whenever someone joins the Kingsmen we swear an oath to each other. One that creates the bonds to help us through everything. I offer you this oath now in the hopes that we can strengthen each other..." With shaking hands and a small tear streaming down his face Jack punched himself in the chest with his right hand. "Husband to wife, partners in life. Yours in life and death." He then released the salute and kissed both Aer's hands, and continued to hold them.

Tom took a small breath as he nodded to Aer, "Commander?"

There was a single tear that Aer had rolling down her cheek. It was one of pure happiness and joy at what Jack had said to her and meant more than the words that had left his mouth. Now she had to try to explain how she felt, and that was no easy task.

"Jack..." she began, her gaze holding his for what felt like an eternity before she truly spoke her words. "I haven't really prepared anything." she admitted to some murmurs in the crowd. "I wanted to speak from my heart at the moment it became yours but have realised that was a long time ago. Do you remember the first time we met? It was in the gym here on the station and I, well unintentionally hit you..." her eyes dropping down to below his waist for a fraction of a second. "I knew then that your compassion and passion I could see behind your eyes still burns brightly. Who knew an accidental flick of the wrist would come to this day, only the fates of time." she smiled at him and squeezed both his hands as if she'd never let them go. "I promise to be by your side until the end my love. You are my galaxy, my universe and nothing will change that. Time may pass us by but together we mark our own destiny by forging a life that will set the skies ablaze to ward off even the bravest Klingon. You are my life, and to quote one of your own... 'If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live a day without you.'"

Then came the moment Tom had been waiting for, something he'd done his homework on. He extended his hand to the best man and maid of honor gathering the rings. Tom held up the rings, "Wedding rings are more than circles of precious metal; they are symbols of an unbroken bond, a promise. They encapsulate a journey of shared dreams, trials, and triumphs. As they encircle the finger, they serve as a constant reminder of the vows exchanged, a tangible representation of the enduring promise to stand together, for better or for worse."

"In their simplicity lies a profound depth of meaning, a silent testament to the enduring power of love." Handing Aer's ring to Jack, Tom spoke, "Colonel if you will repeat after me. I, Jack, give you Aer, this ring as a symbol of my commitment to love, honor, and respect you."

"I, Jack, give you Aer, this ring as a symbol of my commitment to love, honor, and respect you." Jack repeated after the Admiral. With a small quaver in his hand he slid the ring on her finger and smiled. Jack stole a glimpse at the crowd gathered and he could see Brigadier General and Colonel Patton, his parents in their dress uniforms as they beamed with pride. His parents had met Aer days before and loved her for everything she was.

Tom then handed the next ring to Aer, with the same charge, "Commander, if you will repeat after me. I, Aer, give you Jack, this ring as a symbol of my commitment to love, honor, and respect you."

Aer's heart took a little flutter as the ring was placed in her hand. It meant much more than she could imagine, this tiny piece of gold. "I, Aer, give you Jack, this ring as a symbol of my commitment to love, honour, and respect you."

Tom looked over noticing one of the attendants holding the El-Aurian bracelets. The graceful design and the ever-changing hues of the metal seemed to shimmer with significance. Tom spoke, his voice filled with reverence, "These bracelets are a token of your shared journey. They hold the very essence of your relationship. May they remind you of the love that binds you together and the merging of your families into one."

As Jack and Aer fastened the bracelets around their wrists, Tom couldn't help but feel a profound sense of joy. This moment, this union, was a testament to the power of love. The station had seen so much sadness in the last few months, and yet, in the midst of devastation, something beautiful grew out of the rubble.

As the ceremony came to a close, a warm glow seemed to fall over the crowd. Tom looked out at the gathered family and friends. "Today has been a tapestry of love, woven with vows, rings, and bracelets," Tom turned to Aer and Jack, their smiles radiant in the fading light. "May this moment be etched in your hearts forever," Tom said, his voice carrying the weight of the day's significance. "With every sunset, may it remind you of the promise you've made today and the journey you both started together."

Tom finished, "Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends, by the power vested in me by Starfleet Command and the United Federation of Planets, I now pronounce you husband and wife." he announced. His voice carried a warmth that resonated with everyone present. "As is tradition, Colonel, you may now kiss the bride."

This was something that Jack was more then ready for. There was a tradition in the Patton family. You kiss your bride the way your ancestor did at his wedding. So, Jack took Aer's hand spun her around and dipped her. Then he kissed her like he had never kissed her before. This was a kiss to last a lifetime. He could hear his father say "Go get her son." There were huzzahs and Q'Plahs and other adulations in all different languages. When the kiss was through Jack pulled away and once again took Aer's hand to help her upright. He proffered his arm. "Shall we my love?"

The dip Jack had 'performed' on her caught Aer off guard. It was long, passionate and it made her heart beat all the fast for the man that was now her husband, her partner in life. Her cheeks flushed at the large display of affection in front of so many people, her legs a little weak from Jack's touch. As he righted her she tried to catch her breath and all she could do was nod in agreement it was time to move forward as she saw the sabres rise.

As the final vows had been spoken, Brina stepped forward and made the commands, to the marines present all of them in two separate lines.

"Form two lines"

"Carry ... Sabers!" Brina's voice ringing loud and clear, positioning her own saber at the shoulder.

Falling into place with her comrades, Audie moved with her shoulders squared, knowing that the whole contingent was going to do their commander proud. The ceremony had been beautiful, and this part, while regimented, would have a beauty of its own, steeped in centuries of tradition, and she was proud to be part of that.

"Forward... March!" was her next order.

"Halt..... Center Face!" She turning to face the center.

"Presenting Colonel Jack Patton and Commander Aer Patton"

"Present Sabers" was the next part. where she brought her saber to her chin.

"Arch Sabers " holding out her sword to form an archway for Patton and Aer to walk under.

"Welcome to the Marines Ma'am" Brina also said, giving Aer a pat on her butt with the flat of the saber.

A lone female her blonde hair done up in a soft bun, wearing a light blue dress, looked upon the proceedings giving a happy smile and tears falling down her cheeks. She made it back just in time, to watch her friend's wedding.

Cara watched, just beaming at the wedding finally happening, she felt that life was going in to a good phase. Two people very much in love finally becoming one.

Crailo clapped as if he'd practised it a million times before. Perfect rhythm, timing and the right about of contact with finger to palm. Behind his eyes he was happy but he still kept his rather stoic appearance.

The same could not be said for Vikas who was giving out wolf whistles and cheering loudly. He was a man who wore his hearts, his emotion, his passion on his sleeve. Some called him a mad man, but simply put he believed in doing what he wanted and never hiding himself from anyone.

Zaos grinned from ear to ear and as the couple passed him Aer stopped for a blessing from the man who had also been a religious leader at one point in his life. A small verse was said and the holding of Jack's and Aer's hands in his before they were back on their way towards the reception... after a few minutes to collect themselves.

Cara had slipped over to take a seat next to Scarlet, "Thanks for coming with me." she whispered softly.

David gently squeezed her hand in response. "No problem Cara."

The Ferengi group gave a long standing ovation, although judging by the way they now looked at each other, the ceremony had baffled them a little. There had been such a profusion of promises made, romantic images, a passionate kiss, and even a full arms salute, whilst not even Brek was absolutely sure that what was labelled as ‘unconditional love’ was even possible.

“I much prefer our marriage contracts,” Razir whispered. “They are easy to understand, and you don’t have to give more than 5 or 6 years of your life to a bride.”

“You would say that,” Kreca whispered back. “Those contracts always favour men. I found this ceremony very touching. Even in a thousand years, we won’t see anything like that on Ferenginar. You can be sure of it.”

“So much the better,” Razir insisted. “That stuff we’ve just seen is impossible to achieve. Nurturing dreams and insisting on being loyal, when all that’s needed is latinum. Dreams can’t happen without it. Is it about time to grab a bite or two?”

“We might as well check what’s on offer,” Brek added. “But remember, Razir: keep your dignity. Don’t go out there to behave like a starved targ. Dignity at all costs, young man!”

“Well, this is certainly a memorable ceremony, and I shan’t forget it.” Mrs Moreau said to Cmdr Jezka at about the same time. “But as beautiful as it was, I’m glad it’s over. To see such perfect happiness, while for the vast majority of us life is rather less exuberant, it can be a little dispiriting. Would you like to join the Ferengi delegation, Cmdr? I saw you glancing at them earlier on, and I happen to be a good friend of the Ambassador.”

“Oh, I have met Ambassador Brek once when I was just a few days here at the station settling in.” Joah said while he cast a quick glance at Brek. “That reminds me of something. He asked me to figure out how to open the lock of a box he had brought with him. The box is still standing on a shelve in my office. Until now I haven’t had much time to work on it. The least I can do now is to give him a short update.”

Emma gave Jeska an odd look. “It must be one of his antiques. He’s got several collections of them. Intricate things which he believes contain immense fortunes. He pays storage fees on several stations for all those items. Talk of living in hope... Anyway, let’s go see what the GPR is up to...”
