Ensign Masuda had met the Chief of Science, and joined forces with the other scientist, Ensign Jae Seon-u as they had made preparations to deal with the Breen attack. she had long since gone, and he didn't know any of the others that were part of the science team.

In order to break the ice, Ensign Masuda decided that there needed to be something done. Now there was a break room that was set aside for those working in science and Masuda decided he'd put up some food in there, it was safe, no worry about any sort of cross contamination of any sort with food and science projects. He sent out a message to those of the science department. Besides it was an important occasion, well for him it was. They had survived the Breen attack.

Upon a table there was makings for teas, small pastries and fresh fruits cut up into pieces. For those who prefered coffee there was something there for them as well.

"Uh hello, I am Ensign Masuda of science. Would you be so kind in coming to the science break room? "

Ellery was the first to arrive. "Hi," she said, going over to the ensign. "I'm Ellery Rosa. Thanks for setting this up. I'm new here and haven't met anyone in the department except the new botanist."

Frank walked in after a moment and looked around. He gave a shy nod to those already there and went to get a pastry from the table. He wasn't sure about such meet and greet things, at least not in an official capacity. Give him a water cooler any day of the week.

Masuda gave a slight bow in greeting to those who arrived. "Thank you for coming, and you are welcome. At least I have the food in the proper area this time." the Japanese man giving a slight chuckle. "The former Astrometrics personnel had done an experiment and made orange soda which was rather tasty."

"There's an improper area?" Ellery asked, smiling to show that she wasn't serious.

"Oh, there are always improper areas," Brianthe said, entering the room with a warm smile and a light, graceful step. "But those who know don't generally talk about them."

Frank nibbled on his pastry and listened as people came into the room. "The improper areas were where all the fun stuff happened in the private sector." He chimed in after a moment. "The source of conspiracy and gossip for those of us without clearance."

"On a station this size, that's anywhere people congregate, right?" Brianthe asked cheerfully. "You just have to listen."

"Well we had just been drinking our orange soda when in walked the Chief of Science Officer Lieutenant Bergeron. In fact he almost got covered in orange soda." Junichi giving a slight grimace.

"Oh? How did that happen?" Bri asked.

"I love orange soda," Eden said coming along side the others without introducing herself to those she didn't recognize or making her presence otherwise known. She stood there expectantly waiting for the rest of the story.

"Well, Jae and I were working on some sort of device kind of a bomb which would make things a little bit colder and hopefully cause a sort of fog bank to prevent the Breen from coming in. We're not combatants, so... during that, orange soda was made, we decided to enjoy that for a moment then figured we'd best get back to work. I went to clear up and dump the soda and just as I turned the corner to empty it in. I came close to knocking Lieutenant Bergeron over with the orange soda in my hand. It was a bit embarrassing to say the least."

"Orange soda, is an interesting weapon, but what about something volatile like like alcohol?" Jena asked. "I'm Ensign Coln Jena, by the way." She added.

"Then you get something like a molotov cocktail," Ellery said. "But on a larger scale." She was curious as to why they wanted to use orange soda. "How were you planning to use the soda?"

"Maybe Breen don't like being sticky." Jena suggested.

Frank listened and chuckled. "It's a well known fact that Breen are intolerant to orange soda." He added as a joke.

"You know," Eden added. "That's probably true. Maybe not the Breen but there is probably a race that's allergic or intolerant to it. There are races allergic to water though water is found in many places in the universe and orange soda is not, still it's made up of various ingredients and someone is bound to be allergic or intolerant to some portion of it." Eden looked up, having finally come up for breath. She glanced around as if waiting for someone else to offer up another interesting tidbit.

"Or there's a species that breathes through its pores. Can you imagine how orange soda could cause it to suffocate?" Brianthe said, joining the conversation.

"Like insectoids." Jena suggested.

"Well with the bicarbonate soda it could very well be poisonious to some species. What we were working on was a smoke screen mixture using zinc chloride. Jae was figuring that we could use that in order to affect the Breen as they have an enclosed environmental suit." Masuda picking up a drink. "Though, I was in favor of an orange fizzy drink as well." Masuda responded with a smile.

Frank nodded with a smile. "Orange soda that's bad for the environment... good thing I'm not the environment."

Masuda gave a chuckle and a confirming nod. "Good thing definitely." in answer to Frank's comment. "So what do you think of that rift that is out there? Its an interesting phenomena." he paused then asked another question. "Has anyone met a Lieutenant Vilani Telour? She's been on this station longer than I have."

Vilani had been debating on showing up for whatever it was. She'd been busy trying to make sure some of the tests she'd been running were still intact and she just didn't want to just leave them. Finally she decided a break was a good idea and headed for the mess hall a little later than some of the rest. Her hair was in a high braided pony tail to keep it under control.

When she arrived, she glanced around at who was there. Most of the people she hadn't interacted with or met, such was the life of a forensic scientist. She headed over to the snack table and grabbed some coffee and started to put some food on a plate. When she heard her name, she glanced in the direction.

"I'm right here," She waved the plate she had slightly. "Just getting food."

At last the Chief of Science himself arrived, one Kyrruk Bergeron, heading into the room and grabbing himself a cup of tea. He set the tea bag in the cup and stirred it around a little as he looked about to see who else was here. It seemed to most everybody, some he'd spoken to, some he'd seen but had yet to have the chance to meet properly. "Was someone talking about orange fizzy drinks again?"

"Yes. And its impact on the universe," Brianthe said, laughing. It was a light, bell-like sound. "Hi. We haven't met yet. I'm Brianthe Oaxaca, the new botanist. Nice to meet you."

"Lieutenant Bergeron, Chief of Science," he said, holding out a hand to her. "I'm a linguist in my studies, but I know a little here and there about everything."

Bri took his hand and smiled. "I know plants and people. It's nice to meet someone who knows a bit about everything. I'll definitely come to you if I need any help."

"Nice to meet you, Sir." Jena said. "I'm Ensign Coln Jena, I'm a cyberneticist and my father is a linguist on the station."

Frank just smiled and nodded. Taking a mental note of the names and positions before offering his own. "I'm Frank Hanaway. Just kinda... here I guess."

Vilani gave a slight wave after she'd set down the refreshments she'd grabbed. "I'm Vilani Telour, one of the forensic scientists on board the station."

Masuda gave a chuckle. " I was regaling them of our first meeting sir." giving a nod towards Kyrruk. "We've got a lively bunch here don't we."

"Hello, everyone," Ellery said. Then, to Frank she asked, "What does just kinda here entail?"

"Perhaps he's here for purely aesthetic reasons." Jena suggested with a grin.

Kyrruk smiled. "Well, if that's his reason, he does it brilliantly." He turned to Masuda and playfully shook his head. "It was quite the first meeting, wasn't it?" Then he nodded to each of the scientists that introduced themselves. "I'll look forward to the opportunity to work with each of you."

Eden smiled but in the back of her mind she was wondering if that would still be true after he got to see her little quirks that everyone always seemed to find so odd. Oh well, she wasn't about to change herself for anyone.

Masuda gave an answering grin towards Kyrruk. "well we may have had one person transfer out but, we gained five, out science team has certainly grown and I like it, especially with that rift out there."

"Here's a question for all of you, what do you like to do when on personal time?" Masuda was someone who had an innate curiosity.

"I love learning new things, so I tend to read a lot, and dismantle things to see how they work." Jena said. "My mother was angry when I dismantled our new food replicator, but was happy when I reassembled it and increased its efficiency by 16%." She added.

"That sounds like an interesting hobby definitely." Masuda replied. He looked over towards the others. "How about the rest of you?" Masuda giving a glance towards Eden then to the others. Eden seemed to be a bit shy so he won't call attention to her. He will tlak to her later on.

"I try not to take work home with me. So on my personal time... I ski or go diving." Frank said between bites of a pastry.

"I like to read, especially fantasy. All this science, sometimes I just want to indulge in a world full of the impossible." Kyrruk said, adding his own hobby to the conversation.

"I play Ice Hockey in the holodeck a couple of times a week," Vilani spoke up. "I also enjoy a good mystery, but I think that's why I became a forensic scientist."

"I was captain of the Academy soccer team in my senior year." Jena said. "We beat the Marine Academy team."

"I love to read," Brianthe said. "Mostly folk and fairy tales, but I like a lot of genres. And I like trees." She had other talents, but they really weren't hobbies, so she didn't mention them.

Ellery loved books, too, but she didn't necessarily consider that a hobby. "I like pottery and woodcarving."

Masuda was impressed with the hobbies that the science staff had. He looked at Jena, "Soccer you say? Not Rugby? Either way that is impressive. "he turned his gaze to Vliani, "Ice hockey. Impressive, I've not done that before. I'm not that skilled in iceskating, makes me think I had better get a bit more experience before I try my hand at ice hockey. I do like to read as well." he glanced towards Ellery Rosa, "Pottery and wood carving. I would like to see your works of art."

"I have a wheel set up in my quarters, but I don't have any finished projects here. I do have some carvings in one of the labs." Ellery worked on them from time to time if she ever had to wait for a scan.

"Ooh, I love that. I may have to come by and see it," Brianthe said to Ellery.

He looked at Frank and remarked, "Skiing and what sort of diving, sky or water."

"Oh, water. I'm not that brave." Frank said with a chuckle.

"It's not hard once you get the hang of it," Vilani mused for a moment. "Ice skating I mean. Learning to play the sport is a little more difficult, but you don't have to be good at it to be an enforcer."

"There weren't any ice rinks on Bajor, where I grew up." Jena said. "As for rugby, soccer was more popular."

"Soccer is more universally popular," Ellery agreed.

Masuda glanced around at those gathered there, definitely impressed. "Such a variety of interests, I like that. Now I have ideas of things to explore when it comes to hobbies, and I would like to see some of them. However for now.." as he heard the sound of a timer he had set for an experiment. "Oh! Looks like my results are in, thank you all for coming to my little gathering. I am looking forward to seeing some of your hobbies if you are of a mind to share."
